A report published by Ofsted has examined the many critical points that can cause delay in the adoption system, and some of the ways in which local authorities and their partners are working to overcome those barriers.
The report surveyed nine local authorities, tracking 53 adoption cases
The Children’s Rights Director, Roger Morgan, has recently published the After Care report, which looked at views from 308 care leavers both who had recently left care and those still in care but preparing to leave.
Under new adoption inspection arrangements, only local authorities that ensure all children identified for adoption are placed within twelve months will be able to achieve an ‘outstanding’ judgement from Ofsted.
The think-tank, Policy Exchange, has called for radical reform of fostering services in England and Wales. A report published by the organisation has shown that in some instances severely disadvantaged children are waiting for over a year for a foster placement and that the life chances for many children in the system are appalling.
