Following figures released by Cafcass showing that care applications have exceeded 10,000 over the last  twelve months for the first time, the Fostering Network is warning this will put foster care under even more pressure and is calling for urgent Government investment.

Under new adoption inspection arrangements, only local authorities that ensure all children identified for adoption are placed within twelve months will be able to achieve an ‘outstanding’ judgement from Ofsted.

Calls for reform of fostering services

The think-tank, Policy Exchange, has called for radical reform of fostering services in England and Wales. A report published by the organisation has shown that in some instances severely disadvantaged children are waiting for over a year for a foster placement and that the life chances for many children in the system are appalling.

A teenager from Worcestershire has lost her legal bid to be allowed to raise her two-year-old daughter after an Appeal Court judge upheld a ruling that the child should be put in a permanent placement, reports the Telegraph.
